Luxurious Italian Fur Felted Fedora From Hudson's of Detroit Millinery Salon

Luxurious classic style…this authentic Italian vintage hat dates to the very early 1960s based on style and label. 

It is a wonderful piece of fashion history….

This Italian fedora for women has the exclusive Hudson’s millinery salon label. The label also indicates that the hat was imported from Italy. At this time, Hudson’s of Detroit was considered one of the most elegant department stores in the world. The building was known as the tallest department store in the world in 1961…just about the time when this hat was first offered for sale.

The elegance of the Italian fur felt is unsurpassed...the quality expected from Italian milliners. The hat is soft as cashmere and velvety rich in appearance. The felt is quite thick and substantial.  This was a very expensive hat when it was originally sold.

The wide brim may be tipped to any angle. It beautifully arches around the face and was designed to enhance the eyes.

The stylish molded crown is deep enough to allow the wearer to twist up her hair inside it if she so desires. The crown has been molded over a wooden form creating a stylish line to the midnight black silhouette. This alone makes the hat all the more luxurious and chic as the Italians are known for this type of sculpted millinery design.

The sizing is for a 22 or 56 cm. The hat fits perfectly at this size and feels firmly in place when pulled over the head. The original milliner has added a small length of millinery elastic to the interior silk grosgrain facing. This gives the hat that little extra snugness so that it will not fly off in a strong wind.

This hat is will make both collectors and curators smile. It is an outstanding, historical example of a fedora styled hat from this era.

Vintage Hat! Futuristic 1960s Hat by Jillé

This brilliant vintage hat makes a colorful statement! It is designed to slip over a sharply bobbed hair style that was made especially famous by the fashion model icon Twiggy, circa 1966. 

The hat was designed by Jillé, a millinery label is known for elite feathered hats fashioned between the 1950s through the early 70s. This hat is dated to the mid-1960s when psychedelic colors and futuristic designs were not only spotlighted on couture runways but also featured in every ready-to-wear collection. 

The hat is built upon an elegant neon pink, felted wool foundation. This was perfectly covered with individually applied feathers and trimmed with a glorious bouquet of futuristic feathered flowers. It is entirely hand-made in a process that took many hours to design and complete. This is a glorious example of mid-1960s millinery art. 

This vintage hat is in excellent condition to near mint condition overall. All feathers are completely intact and the hat is strong and wearable with tender loving care, since its value relies on the glorious condition that it is in presently. Needless to say, this wonderful creation will make a most eye-catching exhibit display piece! 

The hat measures to fit 22 inches or 56 cm. If you have thick hair, the hat’s placement will align slightly further back on the head than what is seen in the photographs attached. The condition is excellent or for most, near mint. The label does show signs of discoloration due to the chemistry of the original adhesive used to apply it. Of course, the interior of the hat is faced with matching grosgrain.

Created in genuine arctic black beaver, this hat is in vintage mint condition. It looks just like it did on the day it was first purchased and appears as if never worn. The style enhances the face, and especially the eyes. The luscious, luxurious fur surrounds the face with strong, yet feminine tailoring, in the classic Russian ushanka design.

No doubt, indeed, this hat is designed for both style as well as serious winter warmth. 

This hat is the definition of quality.... 

The supple, gorgeous fur is exceptionally warm. It naturally repels moisture in any form, whether snow, sleet or rain… The design will keep body heat from escaping. This hat is especially made to protect the cheeks, neck and face from chapping, chaffing and cold weather bruising. It protects against frostbite throughout the most severe winter weather. 

The classic design is both whimsical and elegant. The side panels seem to dance with your movement when left untied. However, when the hat is tied down around the chin, it will protect a most delicate face beneath. 

The style is exquisite. Modern versions cannot compare…. Again, we did the research…. … Even hair twisted up into a chignon inside depending on your hat size. The hat has a quilted lining in its interior and this appears to be filled with down. This exquisite vintage hat measures generously to fit 22 inches or 56 cm. It is in outstanding vintage mint condition. 

Gift perfect…. Typically, The Gilded Griffin does not include fur items for inventory. However, there are moments like this when a something special appears in the light…a piece that is meant to be cherished for future generations. This is one.

Circa 1951 Vintage Hat With Matching Gloves

Bows! 

This is an estate find and it is a rare treat to find a matching set that was obviously carefully chosen as an ensemble by the original owner. This has not been on the market since the set was first purchased about 60 years ago. 

The hat and gloves are perfectly coordinated! 

From the 1950s, this matching set in a color that is unusual and warm. It is the color of hot chocolate with extra cream...or perhaps a steamy latte.

If you are looking for a vintage gift for a 50s vintage clothing enthusiast, this set is recommended and should delight!

Scarlet Red 1940s Plumed Hat with Original Veil

Scarlet red and gorgeous.

This was the millinery silhouette required to top those 1940s broad shouldered dresses or suits with slim pencil skirts.  

The hat was obviously designed for a bold, energetic woman who was not afraid to show her colors.  It has all the class and style that  first debuted in France when Christian Dior launched The New Look, early in 1947.  It dates to circa 1948. 

The hat is worn at a flirty tilt and held in place with a millinery elastic. It features the original, heavily textured, French silk veil
that is unusually perfect. The upward thrusting feathered trim is mounted upon the same felted wool panels as that from which the hat is made. The trim is made from slightly iridescent French coq.

The hat's designer label is missing, unfortunately. However, the  millinery union label is there and also points this era. This hat is a wonderful example of post World War II millinery fashions.

Vintage Hat! A Glorious Fur Felted Floppy Hat From Swizerland!

This is a wonderful, classic floppy brimmed hat from the 1960s. It is made with luxurious heavyweight, long fibered fur felt and was

imported from Zürich Switzerland.

The brim undulates. It is strong enough to shape, depending on your mood. That is, the edge of the brim is meant to be tugged a little here or there...seductively...over one eye or the other.

This hat was first purchased by a very well-to-do lady during the mid-1960s. The story behind it is that the family took many trips to Switzerland for skiing vacations and the original owner purchased it during one of their pleasant times together. 

The brim is wider at the front than in the back of the hat. It has a tall crown...tall enough for tall hair or hair twisted up inside.... The felt is so soft, one cannot help but to stroke it.... 

This is a fine example of one of the last definitive styles found in antique and vintage millinery historical timelines.

What a Beautiful Vintage Hat!

Asymmetrical design with sharp tilts to one side of the head were ubiquitous millinery silhouettes during the early 1930s. This is an exquisite example dated to 1932.

Masterfully designed, the toque is made from heavenly soft, felted cashmere. Molded over a wooden millinery form, the hat drapes perfectly over the head in secure, comfortable style.

The hat's trim is absolutely exquisite. It is a long drooping pom placed at one side of the face. Each of the long, perfect barbs were selected and trimmed from off a luxurious black ostrich plume. These were gathered into a kind of bouquet, wrapped inside a felted cashmere holder and stitched firmly in place. The result is a drooping pom that gracefully dances in the air. 

The hat is so very soft, that one cannot help but to absent-mindedly stroke it. This is a fine example of what the early 1930s millinery masters created for the fashionable upper class woman. Unfortunately, the millinery label is missing...but the glamour remains.

Vintage Hat. This late 1930s hat has that forward thrusting crown and definitive style that was a favored design silhouette during this time. It is hand woven and made from straw.  The enormous bow is made from moiré taffeta and the hat is banded with black silk netting that is long enough to flutter in the wind.  No, the veiling was not designed to be a full face veil. It was added for textural interest and simply decorative. The hat is held in place with original elastic band on the interior and is faced with a French grosgrain ribbon. There is no millinery label...circa 1939.
